Taking Action

Seatbelts save lives, but too many young drivers and passengers are still not wearing seatbelts or wearing them incorrectly.

In NSW, around 20% of all road fatalities involve the driver of passenger not wearing a seatbelt [Transport for NSW]. That number jumps among 17–25 year olds – in 2021, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt in 1 in 4 driver deaths in this age group.

The problem isn’t awareness. It’s attitude. Young people know seatbelts matter, they just don’t think it matters right now. This campaign flips that thinking. Wearing a seatbelt isn’t just smart – it makes you look good. Responsible is the new cool.

What you can do:
– Buckle up every time, no matter how short the trip or where you’re sitting.
– Make sure your seatbelt is flat and sits snugly across your chest and hips.
– Speak up if someone around you isn’t wearing their seatbelt properly.
